Open iA Writer

Find text

1. In iA Writer, select Edit ➤ Find ➤ Find….

   Alternatively, select the text you want to find in your document, then select Edit ➤ Find ➤ Use Selection for Find.

2. Enter the text to find and press Return.

   You can also add special characters using the magnifying glass ➤ Insert Pattern….

3. Refine your search using the options in the magnifying glass. These include:
   • Ignore Case: Select to ignore capitalization.
   • Wrap Around: Select to search the entire document.
   • Contains: Select to find text even inside a word.
   • Starts With: Select to find text only when it’s at the beginning of a word.
   • Full Word: Select to find text only when it appears as a complete word.
   • Insert Pattern: This allows you to find patterns such as a Tab character, an email address, and more.
4. If the text is found you can:
   • See the number of matches to the right of the Find field.
   • Cycle through the matches using the Find Next and Find Previous arrows.
   • Cycle through the matches using Edit ➤ Find ➤ Find Next or Find Previous.
   • Close Find using the Done button.

Find and replace text

1. In iA Writer, select Edit ➤ Find ➤ Find and Replace….

   If the Find bar is already visible, click “Replace”.

2. Enter the text to find in the Find field.

   You can refine your search using the magnifying glass.

3. Enter the text to replace the found text with in the Replace field.

   Patterns inserted via the magnifying glass will be added where the caret is, including in the Replace field.

4. If the text is found you can:
   • Replace the current match using the Replace button.
   • Cycle through the matches using the Find Next and Find Previous arrows.
   • Cycle through the matches using Edit ➤ Find ➤ Find Next or Find Previous.
   • Replace all matches using the All button.

Note that when the Find bar is visible, the bottom bar (including Word Count) will remain on-screen.
